Description
This building is a barn and stable located immediately to the south-west of Number 1 Roosecote in Barrow in Furness. It dates from the late 17th century and has been altered over time. The structure is made of yellow and red sandstone rubble and features a graduated slate roof. It is currently a single storey building with five bays on one side and two on the other. A later lean-to obscures a blocked wagon entrance, which has quoins and a wooden lintel, while a later opening to the right also features quoins but has a concrete lintel. The stable section on the right includes a boarded door next to a slatted casement, as well as a quoined taking-in door and an incomplete casement window above it. Inside, the barn contains five raised-cruck trusses with original collars, several wind braces, and double purlins. There are later tie beams, renewed rafters, and a ridge. The stable loft floor has been removed, revealing a principal-rafter truss with raking struts and a collar.
