Description
This barn, located to the south-east of number 19 in Biggar Village on Walney Island, is probably from the early 18th century. It is constructed from a mix of cobbles and rubble, with some red sandstone dressings and fragments of a slate roof. The barn is single storey and consists of five bays. There is a waggon entrance in the fourth bay, which has a wooden lintel, and a collapsed window opening to the left. The left end features concrete gable copings.
At the rear, there is a blocked winnowing door with a sandstone arch, along with another arch built in on the right and another on the left return. Inside, the barn has collared principal-rafter trusses with two purlins on each slope, a ridge, and some original rafters. The building was derelict at the time of the last survey.
