Description

Towcett House, along with an adjoining cottage and barn, was built in 1848, as indicated by the Gothic letter initials M.B. on a shield located on the underside of the porch roof. The house features incised stucco with rusticated quoins, while the cottage is pebble-dashed and the barn is constructed of slobbered rubble. All three structures have graduated slate roofs and are arranged over two storeys, with the cottage and barn to the right being lower than the house.

The overall layout consists of 10 bays, arranged in a symmetrical three-bay house at the center, which includes a central Tuscan porch in antis with a panelled door framed by an architrave. There are 16-pane sash windows on either side of the door and three above it. The two-bay cottage is set back from the house and features a part-blocked door, an inserted window to the left, a casement window to the right, and two Yorkshire sashes above. The cottage extends one bay into the barn, which has a part-glazed door and a sash window above. The barn also includes a segment-headed wagon door and a blocked door to the left, with a sash window on each floor in between. Both the house and cottage are topped with stone copings and kneelers, and they feature brick end chimneys.
