Description
The Church of St Mary is a parish church built in 1814. It features roughcast walls with V-jointed red sandstone quoins, set on a chamfered plinth, and is topped with a graduated greenslate roof. The church has a three-bay nave and chancel, along with a west open bellcote and a west porch. The porch includes a pointed-arched doorway and double pointed-arched windows. The nave is adorned with large two-light pointed-arched windows, and there is no east window present. Inside, the church has a flat timber ceiling and 20th-century creed and pater boards. The pews are made from the cut-down remains of the panelled pews from Thrimby Chapel, which this church replaced, with some panels inscribed with dates and initials, including T.T. 1696, E&MB 1721, RH 1700, T&EH, I.H. 1696, WP, IL 1724, T.F.M., and E&M B William Beetham 1721. Additionally, there is a Latin inscribed stone dated 1695 from the former chapel displayed in this church.
