Description
This building is a shop located to the north of Mitre House in Kirkby Stephen, dating from the 18th century with later additions. It features a pebble-dash exterior with a plinth and corner pilasters. The graduated slate roof has a high shaped gable that includes a chimney stack. The shop is 2½ storeys tall and projects into the market square at a right angle to the road.
The west elevation has two bays and displays a Victorian shop front, which includes diagonally reeded panels surrounding a central part-glazed door and flanking windows. On the upper floors, there are two sash windows with glazing bars, each having plain stucco surrounds. The south elevation features a stair window with flat stone mullions, and the lintel of a single sash window with glazing bars on the first floor supports a sill for a reduced height window on the top floor, both of which also have plain stucco surrounds.
