NY 7708 KIRKBY STEPHEN MARKET SQUARE 9/22 (East Side)

Mitre House 6.2.68 G.V. II

House. Dated 1663 on door lintel, with later additions. Slobbered rubble sides and pebble-dash front with the quoins hidden by rusticated stucco end pilasters. Graduated slate roof with brick end chimneys. 2½ storeys, 3 bays (symmetrical). Central C20 part-glazed door with flanking lights has dated lintel; panelled pilasters carry cornice. Single tripartite sash window to either side and 3 sashes to 1st floor; 3 windows to top floor are of reduced height with their sills resting on the lintels to the 1st floor windows. All windows have plain stucco surrounds. Internally, only the hall has retained its original cornice. C.1930 extensions to rear of property are not included.
