Description
The Gables is a house dated 1663, situated on the south side of Everdon High Street. It is constructed of coursed squared ironstone with a plain tile roof, and has brick end and ridge stacks. The house is arranged in an L-shape.
The main front, facing the garden, has a 20th-century open gabled timber porch containing a front door on the far right. To the left of the porch is a three-light leaded casement window with a cemented sill, jambs, and lintel with a hood mould. A similar two-light window is located to the far left, and there are two matching three-light windows on the first floor. A 20th-century back door with a moulded wood surround and timber lintel is found on the return wing. A four-light chamfered stone mullion window, complete with a hood mould, is positioned to the right on the return wing, with a matching three-light window above it on the first floor. A single-storey 20th-century extension sits to the left of the return wing. The building features quoins, a 20th-century roof dormer, and stone coped gables with kneelers. The right gable displays a datestone inscribed with “1663/EP”.
Inside, the house retains ogee-stop-chamfered spine beams and some stop-chamfered ceiling joists.
