Description
This building is a shop with an attached house, likely dating from the 18th century, although the front was rebuilt in the 20th century. It is constructed from local lias stone that is cut and squared, with Ham stone dressings. The roof is covered with clay double Roman tiles, and there are brick chimney stacks at either end. The building has two storeys and features four bays, designed in a Tudor revival style. Notable architectural elements include a plinth, an upper string course, and a plain parapet. The windows are quasi-hollow-chamfered mullioned types with plain sash inserts and square labels. The second bay has a composite shop window with small panes, alongside a glazed door to the right of the first bay. The second bay also features a square bay with a lead-covered bell hip roof. The third bay contains a studded boarded door set in a cambered arched opening with a label. Between the third and fourth bays, at mezzanine level, there is a projecting hanging sign on a wrought iron bracket. This building is included primarily for its group and streetscape value.
