Description

Blunderfield Farmhouse and barn is a farm complex dated 1807, featuring the initials I.L. above the entrance and incorporating earlier architectural elements. The walls are made of coursed red sandstone rubble with ashlar painted quoins and V-shaped joints, topped with a Welsh slate roof and end stone chimney stacks. The farmhouse is two storeys high and consists of three bays. A 20th-century glazed door is framed by a quoined surround with V-shaped joints and a dated lintel. The windows are 2-pane sash style with plain painted stone surrounds. The rear walls are rendered, likely hiding original details; a ground floor 18th-century window to the right has a chamfered surround, while all other windows are from the early 19th century. There is a 20th-century porch and door to the left.

The adjoining barn is positioned at right angles to the rear of the farmhouse and has an earlier house to its right. The barn features a coursed red sandstone rubble wall that has been raised, with a sandstone slate roof. It has two 19th-century ground floor entrances and a filled fire window to the right. The upper floor has a window that was originally a 2-light stone mullion with a chamfered surround, now replaced with a 6-pane casement; there is also a filled single light window to the left. A 19th-century extension to the left is under a common roof that connects with the farmhouse. The barn includes a large projecting cart entrance with plank doors to the left and an entrance to the right with half plank doors and slit vents. The listing does not include other outbuildings and a breeze block extension to the farmhouse.
