Description
The Fetherston Arms Hotel is a private hotel dated 1826, featuring the initials C.S.F. (Fetherstonhaugh) above its side archway. The building is constructed from coursed calciferous sandstone, with raised ashlar quoins that have V-joints, and it has a graduated hipped slate roof with ashlar chimney stacks. It stands two storeys high with three bays and a single bay that was formerly a shop, all under a common roof.
The entrance includes a four-panel door with a painted-over radial fanlight set in a pilastered surround. Large flanking sash windows with glazing bars are present, along with smaller sash windows above, all featuring plain raised stone surrounds. To the left side, there is an arched carriage entrance with a round arch and an oval datestone. The former shop on the right has a 20th-century door, a sash window with glazing bars above, and a large 19th-century shop window to the left, which also has glazing bars and a wooden surround. A bench marked quoin is located at the right corner.
