Description
This milestone, located to the northeast of Crackenthorpe Hall, dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It was created by the Brough-Eamont Bridge Turnpike Trust and is made of cast iron with angled faces and a top, which encases a sandstone backing block. The milestone is painted white, with black lettering that reads "APPLEBY 2 MILES" on one side and "PENRITH 11 MILES" on the other. It has been relocated to its current position from its original location due to changes in the route of the A66.
