Description
The turbine house, dated 1912, is located to the south of Crackenthorpe Hall. It is constructed from snecked, squared rubble with quoins and features a graduated slate roof with projecting eaves. The building has two storeys and is positioned across a small stream, with the entrance at the upper level. Above the door, there is a panel displaying a coat of arms, which is set beneath a pointed hoodmould. Each side wall and the end wall have a single two-light mullioned window. On the west side, there is an initialled datestone in Roman numerals set into the wall below the window. This structure is an early example of a purpose-built facility for the private generation of electricity by turbine, although the machinery is no longer in place.
