Description
Nether Hoff Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1683, with later alterations. It is constructed of coursed, squared rubble with quoins and a plinth, and the sides and rear are rendered. The roof is made of graduated slate and features a stair outshut at the rear, along with three corniced stone chimneys located on the ridge at the ends and to the right of the center.
The building has a two-storey, four-bay front. To the left of the center, there is a panelled door set in an architrave, which has a triangular panel above it that is initialled and dated (G. & I.B. 1683). There are four mullioned windows on each floor, all of which are three-light except for the one to the right of the door, which is a four-light window. The sills of the single-light attic windows are incorporated into the center of the lintels of the first-floor windows, except for the one above the door.
A part of the original moulded cornice can be seen above an inserted door on the west side, with the return along the south wall hidden by a lean-to addition. There is a small window in a chamfered surround to the left of the door, and two 19th-century sash windows on the first floor. The attic features a two-light mullioned window in a chamfered surround with a hoodmould. At the rear, there are three similar windows, although the ground floor right and first floor have lost their mullions. Other windows are from the 19th century, some in chamfered stone surrounds.
Inside, there is a three-flight dog-leg stair with square, corniced newels topped with ball finials. The stair has a closed string with stout, turned balusters and a square moulded handrail. An original panelled cupboard is located to the right in the stair-well. Four upper cruck pairs rest on the wall plate at the level of the lintels to the first-floor windows.
