Description

This milestone, located north of Hackthorpe, dates from 1825 and is made of cast iron. It features a fluted cast iron post with a rounded head. The left side is inscribed with "SHAP 6 MILES" and the right side with "PENRITH 4 1/2 MILES," with "1825" displayed in the center. At the top, there is an oval maker's plate that has been painted over multiple times, rendering it illegible. The milestone is painted white, with the lettering highlighted in black.
