Description

This is a milepost dating from 1825, made of cast iron. It has a half hexagonal shape with fluted faces and a domed cap. The central face displays the date, while the left face features a panel that reads "SHAP/7/MILES" and the right face has a panel that reads "KENDAL/9/MILES". This milepost is located on the route of the Heron Syke to Eamont Bridge turnpike road, which was established in the 1820s to replace an earlier route over Shap Fell.
