Description

This is a milepost dated 1825, located on the west side of the A6 in Skelsmergh. It is made of cast iron and has a half-hexagonal shape with fluted faces and a domed cap. The left side of the milepost features a panel that reads "SHAP/12/MILES," while the right side has a panel stating "KENDAL/4/MILES." The date is displayed in the center. This milepost is part of a series of similar mileposts along the Heron Syke to Eamont Bridge turnpike road, established in 1756.
