Description

This milepost, located opposite the Memorial Hall, dates back to 1825 and is made of cast iron. It has a half-hexagonal shape with concave faces and a domed cap. The sides feature lettering on panels that reads "SHAP/10/MILES" on one side and "KENDAL/6/MILES" on the other, with the date displayed in the center. This milepost is part of a series along the Heron Syke to Eamont Bridge turnpike road, established in 1753.
