Description
Brackenrigg Side is a house with an attached barn, dating from 1674, as indicated by the lettering on the court cupboard. The building is constructed of stone rubble and has a slate roof. The north elevation features three bays, with the barn located to the left. The ground floor includes windows in the second bay, which are casements, while the first bay has a blocked fire window. A large gabled porch with a return entrance is present, and the third bay, likely an outbuilding, is obscured by ivy and has an entrance. There is a squat cross-axial stack.
The barn has an entrance with paired doors at the right end, along with two entrances with flat arches to the left. The south elevation shows a blind first bay. The ground floor features windows with drip courses, including one large window flanked by smaller ones, all with small-paned fixed glazing. The first floor has casement windows.
Inside, the building has chamfered beams and stud and plaster partitioning. The fireplace includes a corbelled lintel and a curved wall to one side, possibly leading to a stair. There is also a court cupboard and a spice cupboard, along with a door that has strap hinges.
