Description
This is a milepost dated 1825, located to the west of North Gateside. It is made of cast iron and has a half-hexagonal shape with concave faces and a domed cap. The sides feature lettering on panels, with "SHAP/11/MILES" on the left and "KENDAL/5/MILES" on the right, while the date is displayed in the center. This milepost is part of a series along the Heron Syke to Eamont Bridge turnpike road, which was established in 1753.
