Description

Bannisdale High Bridge is a bridge over Bannisdale Beck, likely built in the 18th century, with a widening to the east that dates from the late 18th century. It is constructed of stone rubble with dressed coping and features a segmental arch. The voussoirs on the west side vary in length, with some outer voussoirs at the shoulders. The bridge has plain parapets and a roadway that is 8 meters wide. It originally served as part of the turnpike road from Heron Syke to Eamont Bridge until the 1820s, when it was replaced by Bannisdale Low Bridge on a new route.
