Description
No. 78 Soutergate is a house with origins dating back to the 17th century, which was altered in the early to mid-19th century. It features a painted roughcast exterior and a slate roof, standing two storeys tall with four irregular bays. The windows are sashed without glazing bars and are set in painted stone surrounds with projecting sills. The left-hand ground-floor window is offset towards the left, while the right-hand bay is blank on the ground floor. The second bay includes a door with a plain stone surround located to the right of the window. A brick chimney rises from the front wall between the first and second bays, and there is another chimney on the ridge to the right of the second bay. The interior has not been fully inspected, but the left-hand room on the ground floor features a chamfered main ceiling beam and a stone fireplace with an iron range.
