Description
This building is a pair of byres with a storehouse above, which was formerly a house, likely dating from the mid-17th century. It features red sandstone rubble walls with large flush quoins and a Welsh slate roof that has a bottom course of stone slates. The structure is two storeys high and has three bays. The front includes a plank door with an original wooden lintel above it. There are three-light wooden diamond mullioned windows on both floors, although they have partly lost their glazing bars and are now unglazed. The windows have similar wooden lintels as the entrance.
On the rear wall, which faces the farmyard, there are windows from two different periods: a similar three-light mullioned window and a smaller two-light window at the top right, while the extreme right ground floor window has a chamfered stone surround but is now partly covered by external stone steps, with a smaller similar window above it. The ground floor also has a plank door with a wooden lintel. The loft entrance has been enlarged and then partly filled, with the infilling including a reused corbel stone. The inner doorway on the ground floor features a chamfered stone surround. This building was originally the farmhouse before being replaced by the current farmhouse in the late 18th century.
