Description
Force Mill House is a house associated with the nearby mill, dating from the early 18th century, with alterations and additions from the early 19th century. The building features whitewashed roughcast walls beneath a sandstone slate roof, complemented by sandstone rubble chimney stacks. It is two storeys high and consists of two bays, with a left projecting lean-to wash-house and a rear two-storey, single-bay extension.
The entrance is an off-centre 19th-century panelled door set in a chamfered stone surround. There is a 19th-century chamfered stone-mullioned window and an enlarged fire window, while the upper-floor sash windows, which are in smaller chamfered surrounds, appear to be from the 18th century. A small left window is a plain opening, and the wash-house features a front plank door in a plain opening. The extension includes a side plank door and a round-arched fixed casement window with glazing bars, along with a sash window with glazing bars, all framed in red sandstone surrounds. The ground-floor window has shutter hinge brackets.
Inside, the house has a beamed ceiling and a small 18th-century fireside cupboard, along with plank doors that have 18th-century hinges.
