Description

The drinking trough at Scatterbeck is a roadside horse drinking trough dating from 1902. It is made of red Lazonby sandstone and features a simple fireclay trough that is faced with sandstone. The trough is flanked by rounded posts, and the back wall has a shaped coping. Above a recessed panel, there is an inscription that reads: "ERECTED TO COMMEMORATE THE CORONATION OF KING EDWARD VII AND ALSO IN APPRECIATION OF THE LESSENING OF THE GRADIENTS OF SCATTERBECK HILL BY CUMBERLAND COUNTY COUNCIL DRINK THANK THINK E.H.T."
