Description

The Priory Hotel is a hotel located in Cartmel, likely built in the late 18th century, with two additional bays added in the early 19th century and an attic storey added around 1850. The building is constructed of roughcast stone and features a slate roof. It stands two storeys high with an attic and has five bays, with the last two bays probably being later additions. The top of the building has a frieze and bracketed eaves.

The first three bays contain sashed windows with glazing bars, while the fourth and fifth bays have small-paned bowed windows on either side of a glazed entrance, with sashed windows featuring horns on the first floor. The attic includes gabled dormers with slate-hung cheeks; the last two dormers have glazed cheeks, and there are sashed windows with vertical glazing bars, along with one top-hung casement.

The entrance in the second bay is framed by half columns without capitals, a frieze, and a cornice, leading to an eight-fielded-panel door, with the upper four panels being glazed. The fifth bay has an entrance with a glazed door. The building also features gable-end stacks. Inside, there is a staircase with turned balusters and round fluted newels.
