Description
The Post Office in Cartmel is a house and shop that likely dates from the 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of roughcast stone and topped with a slate roof. The building has two storeys and features three irregular bays. On the ground floor, the first bay has a window with small-paned fixed glazing, the second bay has a small-paned bow window, and the third bay has a sashed window with glazing bars. The first floor includes windows with small-paned metal casements, with the window in the second bay having a segmental head. The entrance, located in the first bay, consists of a half-glazed door. There is a cross-axial stack on the roof. The left return, which faces The Square, has a small-paned bow window flanked by panelling and an entablature, while the first floor features a sashed window with glazing bars and horns. The rear of the building has five irregular bays with varied window arrangements; the first floor has sashed windows with glazing bars only in the fourth and fifth bays, and there is a gable-end stack.
