Description
The Kings Arms Public House is an 18th-century building with later additions, located on the south side of The Square in Cartmel. It is constructed of roughcast stone and has a slate roof. The west facade features two storeys and three bays. The windows are sashed, with two windows in the first bay of the ground floor (one of which was originally the entrance) having vertical glazing bars. The windows in the third bay and on the first floor have paired sashes with single glazing bars. The entrance in the second bay is a 20th-century, six-panel door with a side light and a large flat canopy supported by side brackets. There is a double-sided mounting block present. The building has gable-end stacks and a cross-axial stack, along with two gabled wings at the rear. The left return displays varied fenestration, including paired sashes and a window with small-paned fixed glazing and an opening light, as well as a lateral stack. The rear features a lean-to extension that partially projects over the River Eea on posts. Inside, the building has stop-chamfered beams and an ovolo beam.
