Description

Sprunston Farmhouse and the adjoining barns to the north and east are a farmhouse and barns dating from the late 17th century and late 18th century, respectively. The buildings feature sandstone rubble walls that have been whitewashed, a slate roof, and brick chimney stacks. The farmhouse is two storeys high and consists of three bays, with an additional two bays and a byre under the same roof.

The house includes one mullioned window with a chamfered surround, a 20th-century three-light casement window that is partly in its original opening, and Yorkshire sashes with glazing bars in the original chamfered surrounds where the original mullions have been removed. The entrance has a 20th-century surround with a 20th-century door. The two bays to the right of the house have large 19th-century openings with two-pane sashes. The byre on the extreme right features plank doors and slit vents.

A barn extends at right angles to the road, constructed of sandstone rubble walls and topped with a 20th-century asbestos roof. It has a projecting cart entrance, half plank doors, and stone steps leading to the hay-loft. The buildings are included in the listing despite some alterations because they are inseparable from the farmhouse. A 20th-century brick extension into the farmyard is not included in the listing.
