Description
Primrose Cottage Village Hall, dated 1885, also includes two houses. The entrance is inscribed with "LIEUT COL CARLETON SALKELD BUILT THIS HALL" and features a shield of arms. The building has incised cement walls and a red sandstone ashlar porch, topped with a graduated greenslate roof and brick chimney stacks. The hall is a single-storey, two-bay structure, while the houses are two-storey and also two-bay. The hall has plank doors beneath a glazed fanlight in a pointed chamfered surround, with a hood mould that extends around the sides of the porch over small lancet windows. The shaped gable includes the inscription panel, and there are coloured glass casement windows with glazing bars in pointed arches under hood moulds. The houses feature 20th-century doors in painted stone surrounds and sash windows with glazing bars, also in painted stone surrounds, with a continuous hood mould over the entrances and windows.
