Description
No. 15 Main Street is a house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of red and blue chequer brick with an ironstone ashlar string at the first floor level. The building features a slate roof with flanking brick stacks and has two storeys plus an attic, comprising three bays. The central doorway is framed in wood and is flanked by fluted pilasters with capitals that have roundels. Above the doorway is a frieze adorned with quatrefoil ornament, and the door itself is a six-panel design with a blocked overlight. On either side of the doorway are 16-pane sash windows with stone lintels and key blocks. The first floor has similar windows in the outer bays, while above the doorway is a 12-pane sash window. In the attic, there are 8-pane sash windows with brick frames in the outer bays and a 6-pane sash window in the centre. To the right of the main house is an extension, originally an outbuilding, now used as garages. This extension is also early 19th century but was remodelled in the 20th century and is constructed of brick with one storey and one bay. The interior has not been inspected.
