Description

The stable block at Little Houghton House dates from the early 19th century and was altered in the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone and features a hipped roof covered with ridged tiles. The building is rectangular, two stories high, and has four bays. It is attached to the office wing of Little Houghton House, projecting at right angles and facing the coach house across the stable yard.

There are stable doors located to the left and right of the center, as well as at the far left and far right, all of which have overlights and wooden lintels. A round-headed doorway is situated between the doors on the far left and left of center. To the far left, there is a pair of 12-pane sash windows, also with wooden lintels, and loft doors to the left of center and far right, which likewise have wooden lintels. All the lintels are diamond stop-chamfered.

The interior has not been inspected. An attached stone-coped wall projects forward from the right corner of the stable block. This wall is made of ironstone ashlar and features a pier beside the corner with a moulded stone cap, as well as a taller panelled gatepier at the other end, which also has a similar cap. The pier frames the entrance to the stable yard.
