Description

Elizabeth Cottage is a house dated 1601, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone, banded with ironstone and features ironstone dressings, topped with a pantile roof and stone end and ridge stacks. The building has a 3-unit cross-passage plan and is two storeys tall with an attic, presenting a four-window range.

A 20th-century door is located to the right of the centre, featuring a wooden lintel and a relieving arch made of alternating limestone and ironstone. The ground and first floors have three-light chamfered stone mullion windows, with similar relieving arches and hood moulds. There is a gabled dormer window above the left of centre windows, which contains a two-light casement window with a moulded stone surround and hood mould. The cottage also has a chamfered plinth and stone-coped gables with kneelers.

A re-cut datestone on the dormer gable is inscribed with "WR/1601". Inside, the cottage features ogee-stop-chamfered spine beams and an open fireplace with a cambered chamfered bressumer.
