Description

The farm buildings at Home Farm date from the 18th century, with part of the structure dated 1731, and were altered in the 20th century. They are constructed from coursed squared ironstone and have corrugated iron roofs, forming an L-plan layout. The range facing the yard includes a three-bay barn with central opposed cart entrances, although the rear entrance is blocked. There are ventilation slits flanking the entrances and three rows of pigeon roostings below the eaves to the left of the entrance. The left end features quoins and a stone-coped gable with kneelers. Inside, the barn has tie and collar beam trusses. To the right is a slightly lower building that is one bay, one storey, and has a loft. The loft door facing Bedford Road has a wooden lintel, and above it is a datestone inscribed with M/IE/1731, along with quoins and moulded stone eaves. There is also a lower two-bay range along Bedford Road, which has a steep-pitched roof and a ventilation slit facing the road, likely used as a stable or small barn. The roofs of this range also feature tie and collar beam trusses.
