Description

The Old Bakery is a house, originally a baker's shop and dwelling, dating from the late 17th or early 18th century. It was extended and altered in the 19th century. The building is constructed from coursed ironstone rubble, with bands of limestone. The roof is covered with pantiles, replacing an earlier thatch, and has brick end stacks.

The house has a 2-unit, central-staircase plan. It is two storeys and an attic, with a 3-window front. A central glazed door, set within a 20th-century porch, is flanked by 3-light casement windows with segmental brick heads. The first floor has a central 3-light casement flanked by 2-light casements, all with rendered heads. A tile-coped gable is visible on the left side. To the right is a 2-storey and attic extension, formerly partly an outbuilding, with 2 windows.

The interior retains spine beams, some boxed and some stop-chamfered with run-out stops. There is an open fireplace with a cambered bressumer, a dog-leg staircase with serpentine splat balusters, and a collar truss roof.
