Description

Stanford House is a house dating from the mid-18th century, constructed of lias ashlar and brick, topped with a plain-tile roof. It has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with an attic. The entrance front features a six-window range of sash windows with glazing bars, mostly set under flat stone arches with keyblocks. The end bays on both the left and right sides have canted stone bay windows on the ground and first floors, each topped with parapets. To the left of the centre, there is a ribbed door surrounded by a moulded wood frame with Ionic pilasters, cornice, and a pediment above. A moulded ashlar cornice runs along the top. The walls, window heads, and the cornice above and to the left of the front door are made of brick, suggesting that there may have been two different building phases. The roof is hipped and features four hipped-roof dormers, along with brick and stone stacks at the ridge. There is a one-bay extension to the right that is rendered, and the rear and side elevations are also partly rendered. Additionally, there are 19th-century brick extensions at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
