Description

This milestone, likely from the mid 19th century, is made of limestone ashlar and features a rectangular shape with a moulded cornice. It was originally topped with a ball finial. The stone is inscribed with directions and distances to various locations: "Clay Coton 1/2, Yelvertoft (SE) 2, West Haddon 5, NORTHAMPTON 15 1/2, Crick 3 1/2, Daventry 10 1/2." It is located next to the parish boundary of Stanford-on-Avon and forms a pair with another milestone nearby. This milestone is also similar to others found along Stanford-on-Avon Road in Elkington.
