Description

Manor Farmhouse is likely late 16th century, with alterations in the 18th century. It’s a manor house situated on the east side of Stanford-on-Avon Road. The building has a cruciform plan and is constructed with a combination of timber framing, brick infill, and brick, set on a lias plinth. The roof is covered with plain tiles.

The entrance front has a four-window range of casement windows, some with leaded lights set under timber lintels and brick arches. A central gabled cross wing displays exposed timber framing with bracing. A two-storey projecting wing to the right is probably from the 18th century, with a single-storey infill attached to the cross wing. A 19th-century door is located to the right of the centre. Two hipped dormers with leaded lights are positioned to the left of the cross wing. A large central brick and stone stack, and a brick stack at the end of the building, are present.

Other elevations feature projecting gabled cross wings constructed of brick, some with chequered patterning and a string course at first-floor level.

Inside, the kitchen to the left of the entrance has an open fireplace with a bressumer. The staircase, which was not inspected, is believed to be late 16th or early 17th century, featuring square newels, elaborate turned finials, dumbell-shaped splat balusters, and a heavy moulded handrail. A first-floor room contains a 17th-century overmantel with three bays of shallow shell patterning and remnants of 16th-century panelling.
