Description
The Church of St Andrew is a redundant church located on Stanford-on-Avon Road. It dates back to the 14th century and was restored in 1866 by E.F. Law. The building is constructed of squared coursed lias and limestone with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof. It consists of a nave, chancel, and a west tower.
The chancel has a south elevation with a three-window range of two-light Decorated windows that include reticulated tracery. The north elevation features a similar two-window range, with a 19th-century lean-to vestry in between. The chancel has a gabled roof adorned with ashlar parapets, kneelers, and a finial.
The nave's south elevation also has a three-window range of two-light 19th-century traceried windows. To the left, there is a 19th-century south porch with a double-chamfered arch supported by nook shafts, along with ashlar gable parapets and a finial. The north elevation mirrors the south with a two-window range. The gabled roof of the nave has an ashlar cornice, gable parapets with kneelers, and a finial. The buttresses between the nave and chancel window ranges are from the 19th century.
The west tower, likely from the 14th century, consists of three stages and features a short ashlar spire. The third stage has two-light bell-chamber openings and a plain ashlar parapet above. The spire is topped with one tier of lucarnes. Inside, there is a 19th-century double-chamfered chancel arch and a 19th-century roof structure, although the interior fittings have been removed.
