Description

The stable block, located to the east of Stanford Hall, was built in 1737 by Francis Smith of Warwick for Sir Thomas Cave. It features brick construction with stone dressings and has 20th-century alterations. The roofs are covered with plain tiles. The building has a plinth, quoins, a cornice, and a coped parapet, and it includes two courtyards across two storeys.

The south front is symmetrical with seven bays, where the central three bays are highlighted by quoins and a triangular pediment that includes a clockface dated 1737. There is a large central entrance with a rubbed brick segmental arch. Flanking this entrance are three glazing-bar sash windows on each side, which have shouldered architraves and sills supported by brackets. Above these, there are seven smaller glazing-bar sash windows with shouldered architraves. A rooftop cupola with a weathervane crowns the structure.

The courtyard ranges feature dentilled cornices, segmental-arched vehicle entrances, and casement windows with cambered arches. Inside the eastern range, six original wooden stalls with posts topped with balls are preserved. A doorway in the north range, aligned with the south entrance, has a Doric doorcase with a triangular pediment and leads to a second courtyard.
