Description
The Stone House is a house dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of lias ashlar and squared coursed lias, topped with a slate roof that is laid to diminishing courses. The building originally had a T-shaped plan but has been altered to an H-shape. It stands two storeys high with an attic and features a main front that has a five-window range of four-light casements. These casements have wooden mullions and transoms, leaded lights, and moulded stone surrounds. The central window has arch-headed glazing bars and a pediment above, which likely indicates that it was originally a door opening. A moulded stone string course runs between the floors, and the building has rusticated quoins and a dentilled wood cornice. The gable parapet is made of ashlar, and there are large ashlar stacks with moulded cornices at each end. The rear wings, which are in a similar style of squared coursed lias, are partly from the 19th century and feature 19th-century doors. Although the interior was not inspected, it is noted to have an 18th-century style staircase with turned balusters, and some windows have panelled reveals. The house has been extended in the 20th century.
