Description
Nos. 5 and 6 Welford Road are two houses built in the mid-18th century and altered in the 19th century. They are constructed of brick and lias rendered, topped with a 20th-century plain-tile roof. Each house originally had a two-unit plan and is two storeys high. Together, they form a five-window range featuring casements with leaded lights. The projecting cross wing on the right has 19th-century canted bay windows. No. 6 has a four-panelled door with a hood located to the left of centre, while the entrance to No. 5 is on the right side. The houses have hipped roofs with tall ornamental brick stacks at the ridge and end. Although the interior was not inspected, No. 6 is noted to have chamfered ceiling beams and an exposed bressumer above the open fireplace in the room to the left of the entrance. These cottages were likely altered by Thornby Hall Estates in the 19th century.
