Description

Grays Hall is a house dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of brick with a pantile roof. The house is two storeys high and originally comprised seven bays. The main entrance features a panelled door with panelled reveals, set within an ashlar surround and topped with a pedimented hood supported by scrolled brackets. There are three sash windows to the right and left of the door, each with glazing bars and set beneath gauged skewback arches; one of these windows is original. Recessed panels in the brick plinth form aprons below the windows. A flat brick string course with dentilation runs between the two storeys. The first floor has seven more sash windows with matching details, with five of these original. Another flat brick string course sits below a raised parapet, incorporating seven blank recessed panels. The roof is gabled with internal gable-end stacks. Four windows are blocked in the north gable wall, each with a gauged skewback arch and a square hood on a label. A dentiled brick string course continues from the façade. The eaves line has a set-off, and there is tumbling in the gable head. A large, two-storey cross wing extends to the rear, with renewed windows arranged without a discernible pattern. Inside the facade, the bridging beams are fitted with diamond and tongue stops. The remainder of the interior has been largely renewed.
