Description
The Elms is a house built around 1720. It is constructed of brick and features a pantile roof, which is glazed black at the front. The building has 2½ storeys and is arranged in three bays. The central entrance has a panelled door set within a fluted doorcase, topped by a flat hood supported by fluted timber Doric columns with capitals. There is a flat brick string course at the first floor level. On either side of the porch, there are segmental-headed sash windows with glazing bars, each beneath gauged skewback arches. The first floor also has three similar sash windows. The attic storey contains two smaller sash windows and one casement window, again with glazing bars and gauged skewback arches. A parapet conceals the gabled roof, which has internal gable end stacks and gable heads with tumbling. At the rear, there is a two-storey gabled cross wing that also features tumbling in the gable head and has an internal stack. The roof line has been altered.
