Description

Church Farmhouse, dated 1663, is a limewashed brick farmhouse with a slate roof. It is built on a lobby entrance plan and has two storeys and three bays. A central stepped porch features a flat string course and a datestone reading “PELHAM 1663.” The porch gable rests on kneelers, and a casement window sits above the porch. Casement windows with shutters (of 20th-century origin, though retaining original skewback arches) are positioned to the right and left of the porch on each floor. The gabled roof has kneelers, and a ridge stack is located over the door. Flat brick string courses run at first floor level and along the eaves line of the south gable wall, continuing to the rear until interrupted by a two-storey mid-19th century brick extension. A single-storey farm building, now used as residential accommodation, is set against the north gable wall. Internally, a winder staircase is located beside the stack at attic level. The principal ground floor rooms feature wave moulded spine beams. The roof structure consists of through purlins and collars, with mostly renewed rafters.
