Description
The Paulerspury War Memorial honors the fallen from Paulerspury and is designed as a Calvary, located on a small green in front of St James the Great Church, which is listed as Grade II*. The memorial features a figure of Christ crucified made of oak, sheltered beneath a canopy. The cross, with a lead-flashed lower section, stands on a sloping stone plinth that was replaced with stone from Great Tew in 2014. This plinth is set on an octagonal step and a two-stage square base.
Inscribed on the plinth are the words: "ERECTED BY ELLA HARRISON TO/ THE MEMORY OF THE MEN OF/ PAULERSPURY WHO FELL IN THE/ GREAT WAR FOR GOD KING AND/ COUNTRY./ 1914-1918" along with the names of 27 individuals. Additionally, one face of the memorial lists the names of eight men and one woman who died in the Second World War.
