Description

Pear Tree Cottage is a 17th-century cottage located on the south side of Newnham Green. Constructed of coursed squared ironstone, with rendered brick end stacks, the cottage features a corrugated asbestos roof. The building originally comprised two units, and presents a two-storey, two-window front. A central part-glazed door is set beneath a rounded gabled hood supported by iron brackets and a timber lintel. The ground floor includes small two-light casement windows to the left and right, a small one-light window to the far left, all with timber lintels. A one-light window sits above the door, and a 20th-century window is located on the first floor to the left. A 20th-century single-storey extension has been added to the left, featuring a gabled tiled roof and a large window with a concrete lintel. Inside, the cottage has ogee-stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, an open fireplace with a chamfered cambered bressumer, and some original plank doors.
