Description

Newnham House is a late 17th-century farmhouse located on Newnham Mounts Lane. The building is constructed from coursed squared ironstone and features a thatched roof with stone end and ridge stacks. It has a four-unit plan, is two storeys high with an attic, and has a three-window range on the front facade. The central entrance includes a part-glazed 20th-century door with a moulded wood surround and a gabled hood, alongside a Sun fire insurance plaque to the left.

The ground and first floors have leaded cross windows on either side of the entrance, with a small squared window on the far left of the first floor, all featuring timber lintels. There are two roof dormers with 2-light small pane casements, and the gables are stone-coped with quoins and kneelers. A single-storey outbuilding range projects from the left end of the house.

The garden front has five windows and features a glazed garden door to the left of centre, with leaded cross windows throughout, except for a narrow leaded window with a transom to the left of the door, all with timber lintels. Inside, the house has boxed spine beams, a dog-leg staircase with turned balusters, an open fireplace in the kitchen, and a fine set of old doors, mostly with HL hinges, along with a collar truss roof.
