Description

Meadow Cottage is a former farmhouse, dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble with a plain tile roof and brick end and ridge stacks, the ridge and right-end stacks having stone bases. The original layout included a through-passage. The cottage has two storeys and an attic, with a three-window front. A central 20th-century plank door is protected by a hood mould. Replacing original mullions are three-light casement windows, all with hood moulds. The window to the right has a moulded stone surround, while the window furthest to the left has a two-light casement with a moulded stone lintel and hood mould, and the window furthest right is a small rectangular window with a moulded wooden frame set within a chamfered stone surround. First-floor windows are three-light, ovolo mullion, leaded casements, each with a hood mould, except for the window to the left, which is two-light. Inside, there are stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, some original stop-chamfered joists, an open fireplace with a stop-chamfered bressumer, and a stone fireplace with a four-centred arched head. The cottage was formerly thatched.
