Description

CHACOMBE BANBURY ROAD SP4943 (South side) 10/60 Nos.21 and 23 (Chacombe House 04/02/69 Lodge)

House, now divided into two dwellings. Datestone 1654 in right gable. Coursed limestone and ironstone rubble, artificial stone slate roof, brick and stone stacks. T-plan. 2 storeys and attic, 3 bays. 4-light stone mullioned windows in left and right bays on ground floor. Similar 2-light window in second bay from left, all with square hoods continued as string course. First floor windows in outer bays are of 3 lights with moulded wood mullions and wood lintels. Similar 2-light window second bay from left. Doorways on left and right sides are C19-C20. Right side has stone mullioned windows of 4 lights on ground floor, 3 lights on first floor and 2 lights in attic. Square hood of ground floor window continued as string course. C20 dormers. Coped gable ends with kneelers. Projecting wing at rear, probably C17-C18. One storey and attic, coped gable with kneelers and gable stack. Interior not inspected.
