Description
Culvert Cottage is a 17th-18th century cottage located on the south side of Chaucambe Thorpe Road. The building is constructed of coursed limestone and ironstone rubble, with a thatched roof and a brick stack. It is two bays wide and has two storeys. A doorway is located in the right bay, featuring a concrete lintel and a four-panel door. A 20th-century window with a concrete lintel is on the left side. The first-floor windows are two-light designs, retaining original wood lintels, wood mullions, and iron casements. The interior reveals raised cruck construction on the first floor, alongside stud partitions. A fireplace is present with an original bressumer and bread oven, now fitted with a 20th-century grate. A newel stair is positioned within the thickness of the wall on the left.
